The regenerative approach to site design links and integrates human needs and values—including the appropriate use of water—with the restorative treatment of the site ecosystem and watershed. This ‘systems thinking’ approach and ensuing ecological principles integrate buildings and site and increase environmental value for the larger community.
O|CB was site planner and landscape architect on the design team for the Bay View project. The new tech campus was planned for a 42-acre site in South Bay Area. Its design responds directly to the site’s natural and cultural histories and current microclimate conditions and lays the foundation for an optimal, sustainable future. The site and landscape establish a robust green 'infrastructure'—a gradient of healthy and stimulating workplace environments, stormwater management zones, pedestrian networks and viable, ecologically appropriate wetland and upland habitats.
Connectivity between indoors and outdoors is a key priority. Five diverse open spaces, 'outdoor rooms,' provide distinctive experiences for intellectual engagement, recreation, dining and relaxation.
