Golden Gate Park Dog Run

Golden Gate Park Dog Run
San Francisco, California

The Golden Gate Park Dog Run, located in the park’s northwest corner, has long served residents of San Francisco’s Richmond District and beyond.  Despite its popularity and heavy use, the Dog Run has not seen improvements in more than fifty years.  Working closely with the City of San Francisco’s Recreation and Parks Department, O|CB presented at several public meetings and collected and distilled input from the surrounding community to support the re-design of a new and improved Dog Run.

Planned improvements to the Dog Run include new fencing that will divide the park into to a small play area and a large play area, allowing dogs of different social levels to find their best fit.  Sand, synthetic turf, and natural paving will be used throughout the park, providing a diverse material palette for various types of play and activity.  In keeping with the natural aesthetic of Golden Gate Park, existing tree trunks and boulders will be salvaged and reused within the Dog Run as seating and woven in alongside new play elements.  Other amenities, such as drinking fountains, waste receptacles, signage, and a community message board, will be introduced to the Dog Run as well.

Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2020.
